Sandra asks…

What is the problem with internet explorer 9 and yahoo avatars?

I am running windows 7 and internet explorer 9 and suddenly cannot preview my yahoo avatar (is now a blank white window) or change it. What caused this and how can I resolve it?

Thank you!
@tiny – I get the same results with Chrome and Firefox guess it is Yahoo issues once again…

admin answers:

Yahoo is having some issues at the moment. Something similar happened last week and they got it fixed pretty quick. Nothing to do but wait.

Jenny asks…

How can I get from Internet Explorer to My Computer?

My laptop currently has a logon log off loop, and I have to get to my computer to fix it. I can’t log on at all, but for some reason internet explorer opens every time i turn the computer on, without even logging on. Any ideas?

admin answers:

Just open the area where you type an address.

Type in My Computer and enter

Mary asks…

I have Windows Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo! Is there a way to get a regular version downloaded?

I hate the “provided by Yahoo!” part of this. I can’t download the regular Internet Explorer 8 because it says I have a newer version of IE. If I delete the whole IE off my computer, I would need a way to get on the internet to download it right?

admin answers:

Melissa,

Hi, this is Feran with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team.

When you remove IE8 you should be reverted back to the previous Internet Explorer version you were using (IE7 I would guess).

Then you can download the official Microsoft IE8: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx?ocid=ie8_sm_b

Hope thsi helps!

Sharon asks…

Internet explorer opens with:IE is currently running with add-ons disabled hos can I fix that?

A few days ago I installed iTunes and iPod program into my computer, after that, every time I open the internet, instead of my home page, it opens on a page that tells me that Internet Explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled. I already try the System restore but it didn’t work. Can anybody help me?

admin answers:

Try to enable the add-ons. On your Internet Explorer menu, click Tools –> Manage Add-Ons. Then select the Enable option for each add-on.

Note: It sometimes happens that add-ons are added by viruses. When your Anti-virus software detects them, it automatically disables those add-ons. Make sure that those add-ons are valid add-ons from iTunes or iPod programs.

Nancy asks…

How do I get my internet explorer to quit shutting down?

Everytime I close a tab or close a window everything I have open through my windows internet explorer closes. I mean everything. Even if it is minimized it closes. Sometimes it will close if I go to a site and the site won’t open. Like if I go somewhere to get new screensaver then it closes. I’ve never had this problem before but this is a new Dell 1420 and it has vista but my wife’s 1521 has vista too and it doesn’t do it. Please help.

admin answers:

Seems like this is an IE problem, try to clear out temporarily files by going to Tools>Internet options>press delete on the general tab>then delete all browsing history if possible. If this won’t work go again to Tools>Internet options>advanced tab>then under browsing on the settings window, uncheck enable 3rd-party browser extensions then restart computer. If this still don’t work, then you really have to uninstall/reinstall IE.

Your Questions About Computers

Charles asks…

What do I need to do to save my files before I download internet explorer 8?

admin answers:

Run system restore and create a restore point. My advice, though you didn’t ask for it, is to stay with 7 and let them get the bugs out of 8 for the next 6 months or so. Or, better yet, use Firefox.

Thomas asks…

You can not delete MSN it is a website. You can not delete Internet explorer it is an operating system installed by Microsoft in the software that operates your entire PC..

You can set your homepage to be Yahoo but you will still be using IE unless you have Firefox browser. Even if you have FF you can NOT delete IE.

Your Questions About Computers

Donna asks…

Why do I keep getting “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”?

It happens about 50% of the time I go to any website. I have to hit refresh over and over again until it finally comes up. Happened coming to this site.

admin answers:

It could be the firewall as someone else suggested. Also, are you using a wireless connection? If so, it could be that there are things between the computer and the access point causing interference in the signal. Or, if your network is not secured, someone could be siphoning some of your bandwidth by using it, causing your connection to be less reliable. Of course, it could also be the ISP itself, especially if they are installing new lines or doing maintenance close to where you are.

You will just need to go down the list, eliminating things one by one. Good luck : )

Helen asks…

Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage – this message keeps coming up for all sites?

This is on a wireless laptop and the wireless signal is strong as i have checked this. Was getting on to internet no problem yesterday but can’t get on today – can anyone help

admin answers:

What version of ie are you using? If it is 8 this is a common problem. Try a different browser like firefox or opera. Also you can try repairing your connection, sometimes I have a good signal but it just doesn’t seem to be working. Just right click on the wifi icon in your taskbar then click repair.

Sandy asks…

Your Questions About Computers

Paul asks…

I want to change back to Internet Explorer 7?

How do I change from Internet Explorer 8 back to 7?
I have Windows XP and I downloaded Explorer 8. It worked at first but now my computer is slower, some things don’t show up on websited, and everytime I exit out of the internet my computer freezes and I have to unplug it. I tried to reinstall Explorer 7 but it said I couldn’t because a newer version of Explorer had been detected. What do I do?

admin answers:

Well you should try to download the “run” installation that way you don’t install it off the internet, next uninstall the newer version of internet explorer and run the new one.

Other option is you can try to download “mozilla” for back up and uninstall the “explorer 8″ and then install “explorer 7″ from the internet through mozilla.

Hope it helps.

Chris asks…

How can i change back to internet explorer 7 from already having 8?

i downloaded internet explorer 8 now it messed up my computer.i need explorer 7 vista but cant find it. ): HELP QUICK!!!

admin answers:

The Internet Explorer team has made many, many improvements from IE 7 to IE 8 in regards to speed, security and compatibility. If you are not liking the way pages are looking in IE 8, there is a mode called “Compatibility Mode’ that allows you to view pages just as you did in IE 7, with the added features of IE 8.

Laura asks…

I accidentally upgraded my computer to Internet Explorer 7. How can I revert back to the previous IE?

Hello. I accidentally upgraded my computer to IE 7 months ago and have realized this upgrade has caused my computer to be very slow, DVD player, scanner and web cam do not work anymore. I notice on the HP, etc. websites IE 7 is not compatible with most of these.

How can I revert back to the previous Internet Explorer?
To further explain how I “accidentally” upgraded..it was an accident. I was to upgrade something for work on my home computer and I “accidentally” hit Yes instead of No when my IT dept. specifically said hit No. So yes, I accidentally upgraded to IE 7. It has not caused me any issues until now. It was an error on my part, but it was not done intentionally.

Thank you all for the great answers.

admin answers:

Yes. If you installed IE 7 and wish to go back, I simply don’t blame you. I don’t like it either.

Here are the instructions. I hope that they work for you.

Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 and restore Internet Explorer 6 when using Windows XP or Windows Server 2003

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. You might have to CHECK the box that says SHOW UPDATES
4. Scroll down to Windows Internet Explorer 7, click it, and then click Change/Remove.

If you cannot find Internet Explorer 7 in Add or Remove Programs, click Start, click Run, type
%windir%ie7 spuninstspuninst.exe
(I added a space after ie7 so you could see the whole line)
and then press ENTER.

For more information, check this page at the Microsoft website. Http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/Aa740486.aspx

If you have further trouble, you might try the RESTORE thing in the System Tools folder and go back a few days before you made this terrible mistake.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

James asks…

I have a question about Internet Explorer 7?

We had a problem with windows and had to reinstall everything back to the way it was. When we installed Internet Explorer 7 back on to the computer, we wanted to put google back as the home page, but it keeps going back to msn. We change all of the settings and save them and then when it starts up again it goes to msn again. We had google on before and all of the programs are the same, but it just keeps losing the settings and we don’t know why. Do you have any ideas?

Carol asks…

How to install Internet Explorer and eliminate Internet Explorer 8?

I am not satisfied with Internet Explorer 8 and previously had Internet Explorer 7. I would like to go back to using Internet Explorer 7. How do I do this? EcC

admin answers:

Go to your Uninstall page and just uninstall Explorer 8, your computer will automatically go back to Explorer 7….but WAIT…Why not just download Google Chrome, it is much better than Explorer. Just type in Google search bar Google Chrome. Follow the instructions on downloading it. You will like it much better. If you are using windows 7 then you can download the new Explorer 9.0 but Chrome is a much better browser. You can still use Explorer whenever you want to, it is best to have two browsers anyway. You will have a Chrome and Explorer browser icon on your desktop, just use the one you want to get on the internet.

David asks…

How do you load the Yahoo toolbar with Internet Explorer 8?

I have it loaded on my other computer, but can’t seem to locate how to get it loaded onto this computer. I remember seeing Yahoo offering it when Internet Explorer went to #8, but I ignored it at that time. I have #8 loaded in this computer, but would like to add that Yahoo toolbar.

admin answers:

You can download the Yahoo toolbar from here:

http://toolbar.yahoo.com/

Another option is Internet Explorer optimized for Yahoo!. With the optimized browser you get instant visual results and helpful suggestions with enhanced Yahoo! Search. Preview your Yahoo! Mail Inbox with a click, and can enjoy the built-in Yahoo! Toolbar:

Paul asks…

How can I find my downloads in Internet Explorer 8?

I need to find the website where I downloaded something from and I can’t find the download tab/window in Internet Explorer 8.

admin answers:

Websites you’ve visited are usually stored in History, unless you’re paranoid and delete it every time you log off.

Otherwise, IE8 doesn’t keep track of downloads like Firefox and some other browsers do. You might as well just ask where to find what you downloaded before.

George asks…

Do you see a noticeable difference between the speeds of Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.6?

Internet Explorer 8 is much faster than IE 6, but I notice that Firefox has a faster start up, although Firefox is slightly faster when it comes to browsing. Thoughts?

admin answers:

It really depends on the site you go to and what is being rendered. On internal systems we found that FF was consistently 30% faster than IE.

Studies by independent bodies show that Chrome can be the fastest but all of them have their own strengths (what they can process the best). Unfortunately IE doesn’t beat anybody.

Robert asks…

Can anyone tell me about Internet explorer 8 and how to view multiple screen names?

I have internet explorer 8…how do I view all my other screen names that I use. On the old, use to be able to click and it would list all your other screen names and you could click on it and go to it. This new one doesn’t have that option.

admin answers:

Wiki it, it’ll tell you everything.

Your Questions About Computers

Betty asks…

which is better the internet explorer 6 or the internet explorer 7?

when i started using internet explorer 7, my connection got slower and it always got disabled. when will they update the bugs and ****? so what do you suggest? ie 6 or 7? do you also experience the same kind of problems in ie 7?

admin answers:

Neither..i use Firefox…i don’t even have IE 7.0 installed. I’ll use IE 6.0 whenever i need to (scan computer etc).

Joseph asks…

While using Internet Explorer 6 and trying to open a PDF file on the web, my browser crashes. Why?

My other PCs with Internet Explorer 6 will open web based PDF files just fine. The default program in the file options is set to Adobe 6 Std to open PDF files. I switched the application to Adobe Reader 7 to test any differences and the browser still crashes. Adobe will open any locally stored PDF files just fine; only while trying to open web PDF in IE6 crashes this browser.

Any ideas what to look for?
I personnally use Firefox, but these others are company computers and (unfortunately) I am mandated to run IE on them. IE7 I believe is still Beta and not for some of the technilogicallly challeged induviduals I have to work with. I am not afraid to open the case on a PC or load software, so they made me the IT guy…but this one has got me stumped. One PC out of forty and this one has to give me fits.

admin answers:

I had a very similar problem with acrobat, and it had EVERYONE stumped, im mildly techinical, i was stumped, i have some really good IT people, they were stumped, and we tried EVERYTHING we could possibly think of to fix the problem. Eventually we were so obsessed with solving the problem, so we wiped everything out and re-installed windows and everything, and then it worked. I mean seriously, we tried everything before doing the re-install.

Did you feel that rush of wind go by you?

How do I turn off popup blocker? Internet Explorer 6 – Windows XP Pro (NO SP2 installed) Help!?

How do I turn this off???

How do I delete Internet explorer 7 and install Internet Explorer 6?

I am having a lot of problems with IE ver.7 and would like to delete it and install IE ver,6. The pc came with XP w. SP3 and IE7. Had to delete SP3 and install SP2 for my smartphone to work. IE7 sucks and all of my other PCs have IE6 with NO problems. What do I do?

admin answers:

Making a retrofit for IE would leave your system open to many security issues, some of them quite serious, and would be ill-advised.
Perhaps there is a more specific reason or symptom that you could describe, and perhaps find work arounds or fixes for them.

Donald asks…

How do I switch from Internet Explorer 7 back to Internet Explorer 6?

I don’t like 7 and want to go back to 6…..I just had my whole computer reloaded and they put 7 on, but I really want 6 back. Do you have to re-install the whole operating system? I can’t do that because I don’t have the disk. Thank you.

admin answers:

Don’t bother. IE 6 is alot less secure and for those people who program web sites, IE6 retards the development of internet technology by having to support antiquated and inferior browsers. Better get some other big-name browser like Firefox or Google Chrome or Opera or Safari, which are all multiple times faster than IE. Try experimenting with a few and see if you like it. And I don’t really think it is possible for you revert IE editions anyway, if you can’t change it from Add or Remove Programs or Windows Update.

If you don’t like the different interface of IE7, I think you will like Firefox. It is a lot closer to how IE6 looks than IE7 is to it.

Your Questions About Computers

Jenny asks…

why do I keep getting internet explorer cannot display the webpage?

I’m unable to delete out of both hotmail and Yahoo plus unable to send.
The page “internet explorer cannot display the webpage” comes up if I try to send e-mail ,delete or turn page on web pages. Have not had this problem before

admin answers:

Your question needs to be a little more clearer.

First you say “internet explorer can not display the webpage”, and then you talk about being “unable to delete something out of both HotMail and Yahoo, plus unable to send.”

In other words, you’re talking Webpage viewing and email problems. They are completely different.

Charles asks…

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage Most likely causes:You are not connected to the Inter?

when i sign. mail page comes but when click mail its giving message. internet explorer cannot open webpage. what does mean. last three four days im facing this problem

admin answers:

Open your internet explorer browser….

If it will not connect though you actually know you are connected but only being blocked to enter any sites, click on the Diagnose this problem… Answer all the queries pertaining to connections.

The microsoft will help you through it…

Once diagnostic is done, close it and refresh the internet explorer!

David asks…

How to get rid of ‘Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage’ prompt?

It only shows up on my yahoo mail page? This is driving me crazy. I can’t get rid of it. I already went in security and made sure SSL & TLS protocols are enabled. What now?
EGADS – now it is showing up on the right side of my question, where adverts usually are.

admin answers:

A couple of Yahoo’s advertising servers have been having major issues with some very poorly written IFrame code for the past 16 hours or so.

Your browser is unable to connect to these ad servers…that is actually a *good* thing as many users today are experiencing excessive pop-ups and full page blank pages when visiting many of Yahoo’s pages…not just e mail.

It’s only mid-morning in India, Yahoo’s crack IT Dept. Is just beginning their day, I am sure they will have a solution by mid April.

George asks…

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage..? (facebook)?

my internet is fully working but everytime i go to facebook it says it cannot display webpage.
Is this happening for anyone else?

admin answers:

It’s facebook doing more of their stupid updates. Why can’t they just leave it alone for gods sake -.-

Lizzie asks…

Why do i sometimes get the message “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”?

Vista, IE8, Wireless.

Now, if i turn the router off/on i can connect and surf again okay, so is it ‘channel congestion’ because neighbours are also using wifi(as suggested by my ISP help section) or is something else up?

Happened twice today.

admin answers:

I don’t use wifi, and I get the same message, usually right after I turn on my computer and I am establishing my first web connection of the day. I have to close the browser and reopen it. Then, it works fine. I believe that most times all the plugins that operate flash, java, xml, etc are not fully loaded by that first moment when your browser seems to make the internet available to you. Closing and reopening it makes all these necessary items available to your computer because most of them have already be added into RAM or PRAM on your first try.

How to i get internet explorer back after i download safari?

Ok, so i downloaded apple safari, and now i want to get internet explorer back, NOT firefox so don’t even tell me to get it, i like internet explorer, how do i get it back

admin answers:

Internet explorer comes preinstall on almost any windows OS. I dont think Internet explorer can be uninstall because it is part of the Operating system.
Which means IE is still on your computer.
Try checking this folder:

C:Program Files
from there look for the internet explorer folder.

How do you erase history in internet explorer 8?

I have windows vista. I never had a problem with previous versions of internet explorer. I have gone to internet options and tried the normal way, and I have tried everything else. This is normally a easy task, but every time I erase my history now., it remains. Can I uninstall IE8 and try firefox now. IDK what to do now . Why is this so complicated now.

admin answers:

Hey, this is Feran with the IE Outreach Team. Go to Tools then Delete Browsing History. Also in IE8 you can enable the InPrivate browsing mode which helps prevent your browsing history, temporary Internet files, form data, cookies, and usernames and passwords from being retained by the browser. Click ‘Safety’ and choose InPrivate Browsing.

admin answers:

Right click with your mouse on your desktop tab ( the one that has the Start button ) and select Properties – Start Menu – choose – Classic Start Menu and an Internet Explorer Icon should appear on your desktop.

If you accidentally close your Internet Explorer windows, is there a way to recover that session?

I accidentally hit the big x = cancel in the upper right corner, and it closed all my tabs. Is there a way to recover it?

admin answers:

Method 1: In Internet Explorer window
Click on Tools pull down menu (either from Command Bar or Menu Bar
which can also be activated via Alt+T keyboard shortcut), and select Reopen Last Browsing Session.

Method 2:
Open a new tab, and then click on Reopen Last Browsing Session link. If you can’t see it, expand Reopen close tabs section.
